You’ve got to hand it to the South. They come up with some of the most unique and sometimes hilarious words and phrases. Depending on who you’re talking to, it really can seem like they have their very own language.

While some of these are common enough to have even spread to other parts of the country, some are so “down home” that even I have to stop and think about what they mean.

A really long time

“I haven’t seen your Aunt Everlena in a month of Sundays.”

Hill of beans

Something that doesn’t mean a lot or anything

“Your opinion ain’t worth a hill of beans.”
