When people visit my home state of Alabama, they always ask “What is there to do?”

Since I’ve lived here my entire life and have visited most all of the touristy locations, I thought I’d look into some lesser-known “attractions” around the state. Boy, I was not disappointed! I had never heard of most of these and yes, I plan on trying to visit every one on the list!

Barber Marina — Elberta, Alabama

The small coastal town of Elberta is located in Baldwin County and is home to the Barber Marina. Founded by billionaire George W. Barber, the Marina has hosted an eclectic array of sculptures since the early 2000s.

Designed and created by artist Mark Cline from Virginia, the first attraction you’ll find after turning into the marina’s entrance is “Bamahenge”. The fiberglass recreation of Stonehenge in England was built in 2004 and replicates the original’s exact orientation, down to the sun and summer solstice.
