Rocking Around the Christmas Tree.

That was the theme of our city’s annual Christmas parade this year.

Immediately images of rocking chairs, inflatable guitars, huge cardboard records, and mannequins from Home Alone flashed through my mind.

However, the department I work for doesn’t conform to the norms of the non-nerd peasants.

We had bigger plans. Galactic plans.

We played on words and fine-tuned our entry:

“Rocket” Around the Christmas Tree.

Our department’s service van was transformed into a rocket ship, complete with wings, thrusters, and decals along the sides.

Who would we be if we didn’t introduce a goofy element into our entry as well? That’s where the costumes came in.

Most kids have a moment during their childhood when they look up to the vastness of the sky and dream of being an astronaut. Since we are a department made up entirely of oversized children, this was our chance!
