I wound up paying $5000 for my baby (obviously my dog) to have back surgery that was only a 50/50 shot that she would walk again (she did). My late German Shepherd had to be on meds for seizures that ran $60 a month. We had three dogs for a long time and the bills can rack up quickly.

Growing up, we had several dogs and I never remember any of the them going to a vet but once or twice. We gave them their shots, dewormer, flea preventative, etc. Now you're expected to have like 7 different shots, teeth and ear cleanings on a regular basis, etc. I love my animals with every fiber of my being, but sometimes it gets excessive what you are "expected" to do for your pets.
