One reason why schools institute celebrations based on holidays and special events is due to the fact that there are some children who have guardians that don't or can't put forth the effort to take their child to events outside of the school. I have explained to my son that just because we do fun activities all the time, doesn't mean that all of his classmates do the same. It is truly detrimental to remove these chances at being a normal kid from schools.
