The Suspect in a 24-Year-Old Alabama Cold Case is Headed to Trial

Will the families of two murdered teenage girls finally get justice?

July 31, 1999, is a date that the Beasley and Hawlett families will never forget. It was the night that their two daughters and two best friends, J.B. Beasley and Tracie Hawlett went missing.

As Carol Roberts, J.B.’s mother called the police to report her daughter missing, the vehicle that the girls had been in had already been found by police in a neighboring town. This is where their bodies would later be found in the trunk of the car.

Evidence was gathered, witnesses were spoken to, and suspects were interrogated. However, 20 years later, we are still waiting to see what really happened to Tracie Hawlett and J.B. Beasley.

As of 2021 when I published the original article, the Ozark Police Department had re-opened the case and located a potential suspect.
