When I read the title, my honest thought was "Here we go, someone else who had their Wheaties pissed in because they didn't win." But you are absolutely correct with everything you said. I knew that I had no chance of winning, but considering that sooo many amazing writers with amazing stories who have put in the work and hit home runs with their entries were overlooked really pisses me off too.
