This week, we take a hop, skip, and jump over to the largest country in the world. As Russia is over 6,601,670 square miles and takes up one-eighth of the world’s livable land mass, you can imagine that it houses some of the world’s most incredible natural wonders.

The Psychedelic Salt Mines are located in Yekaterinburg, the fourth-largest city in Russia. Named after Catherine I, this massive city of 1.5 million residents, lies on the eastern side of the Ural Mountains beside the Iset River. Moscow is approximately 1,000 miles from Yekaterinburg, but it’s what lies 650 below the industrial city that is truly mind-boggling.

Psychedelic Salt Mines

The name gives you an idea of what’s going on underground, but it can in no way prepare you for the trippiness taking place. It looks as if ancient hippies made the mines their canvas and created a cavernous kaleidoscope. However, the vivid colors and designs displayed are naturally occurring.

The only patterns that man had a hand in are the perfectly circular designs on some of the walls were formed from drilling during the cave’s modern exploration.
