Why I Use Box Dye Instead Of Going To The Salon

It’s not because I don’t think salons are worth it.

I colored my hair last night. Again. For the second time this month. I missed several grays around my hairline, so I looked like a Colobus monkey. It had to be fixed. Did I go to the salon? Nope. Just whipped out my box of L’Oreal Paris Excellence Cream and went to town.

I am 37 years old and would probably be fully gray/white if I didn’t consistently color my hair. I began my journey to Grayville in middle school, so hair coloring has become as normal as shaving. In fact, in the winter, I probably color my hair more than I shave my legs. Luckily, it’s all brown, so I don’t have to color my leg hair.

So Why Do I Do My Hair Vs. Going to the Salon?

  • I have to color my hair every four to five weeks because my hair grows like I’m Cousin It and Crystal Gayle’s love child.
  • Since I’m a brunette, that grey and white combo in my part stand out like a nun at Hooters.
  • I bought a coloring kit which includes the mixing bowl, several applicator brushes, and clips. I may as well be an expert.
  • I’m super impatient. When I want my hair colored, I want it done that day, it’s all I can think about. What’s that kid…
